The story of “Camas Rapture”

One of the most exciting places on earth is a place called Island Park. There are slow moving clear rivers, mountain views, water falls, and amazing encounters with wild life. One early spring morning a herd or elk came into a meadow filled with camas lilies in full bloom. It was a rare serendipitous moment in time to witness. Kendall received a hundred references of the event.
As Kendall studied the references he felt and envisioned a hundred feelings and then he spent a year painting the feelings and emotions, the community of elk with lives connected to this place and time, and our connection with them. He painted the mother elk caring, protecting, teaching, and showing the rapture to the young. He depicted the babies romping and the majestic father elk guarding and presiding. He painted this delightful story in the expanse of the whole meadow, a lake of periwinkle blue, with majestic Mt. Sawtell in the early morning sunlight. Come walk among the elk in the camas lilies and feel the rapture.

An Interesting Note: This seems to be a common occurrence of seeing camas lilies in bloom from a distance and mistaking them for a pond or lake. There is a time when Lewis and Clarke experienced seeing the same phenomenon, which they recorded in their journals.
